It's Christmas... December 25th..

Just like kids, we were up at 0530 am in our PJ's at the Christmas tree ,ripping up paper and discovering the great things that came to us. We were so spoiled....

We loved Canada Post this year. Opening up everything one at a time, Laughing all the way. Thanks to everyone who sent us up some goodies.

Really we didn't' want to get up at 0530 in the morning as we just went to bed at 1:30 or so, but we had no choice. We were busy girls this Christmas. Had to work and then over to Tammy's for Christmas Dinner after work. So there we were, up at 0530.. but worth it!!

Willie was missing McDonalds one day, and must have told Jackie from work and look what was sent.. Only Jackie!! (thanks)

And Amy yes we do love you. You sent us up Mint Smoothies from Rheo Thompson. What a girl.. you win my heart again. I love Mint Smoothies...You are the best Amy!!

We sure loved Christmas this year, and it was a true Christmas, we had snow unlike the rest of you who were enjoying sunlight and hot temperatures.
Thanks to Everyone..

Christmas EVE

Even though we had to work.. well if 4 patients consider it working.. we came home got ready and were out on the town. We had the big walk, 2 doors away to Jeremy and Lindsay's house. There we had appy's and drinks. A nice quiet night in surrounded by others all in the same situation as us, away from friends and family and the home land. What a great night

Nanook was a hit that night. The 95lb Alaskan Malamute wanted the attention of everyone. She is so cute, but huge. Look out

We soon will be Nanook's dog sittes as Jeremy and Lindsay visit Ontario. I think she is the biggest dog I have seen!!

Created in Honour of Hero, sung to the tune of Jingle Bells

Dashing through the hospital
In a scrub top and tied on pants
We rushed into a room
And discovered all the rest

We thought the board was empty
No patients to speak of
But to our surprise we saw an accident
And rescued them in time

Oh boluses, IV meds come in handy
Sugar Cane and Holiday spirit infusing happily
Oh baby ready, deliver her, Mom is so happy
What's that dear, you don't feel well
We will give you holiday cheer

Then the floors were quite
The nurses rested up
For the next big emergency
To come shuffle us up

Oh call bell rings, I have to pee
My IV just fell out
Oh what a site, it's gonna be
Christmas time tonight

Ok now you all can laugh.. and yes we do work hard!!

It's beginning to look alot like Christmas.

That's right, you saw the tree hunt and here is our wonderful Charlie Brown Christmas Tree.

Isn't it the most Beautiful Tree you have ever seen. That is right if you look closely you will see the middle of our tree doesn't have many branches. Yep we picked a great one. Tall and skinny and kinda bare. Ah well, at least it is real, fresh from the side of the road.

And another funny thing, all those brown packages. I guess there is a shortage of Christmas wrapping paper in Ontario (ha ha ha). Thanks to all of you who have sent us a package. It truly has made our trips to the Mailbox GREAT... Santa is good to us this year. And we are waiting for Dec 25th like good girls to open them all. Cannot wait!!

The hunt for the perfect Christmas Tree

First off, if you all have not noticed yet, our trees north of 60 are tall and skinny. So this tree we picked out is perfect for where we are. We drove out of town, via's Hero's Tree steeling mobile, down a quiet road for our tree. We cannot have Christmas without a tree, even if Willie and I will both be at the hospital working.

We parked and walked, and found the tree that would make our Christmas a whole Lotta fun.

What to look for in the dark, anything that looks somewhat good. Yep that is right, I think we are having a Charlie Brown Christmas tree this year.

The good about the tall skinny trees is that it only takes about 3 times with the saw, and it falls to the ground.
Merry Christmas to US

Sunday we drove along the Alaskan Hwy. We headed out to see some mountains, and for me to get more pictures. Not much but snow, but it still was a great sight to see. The mountain overlapped in the distance, and nothing is better than seeing the road flow into the great white mountains.

We had fun!

Snow was even better in the mountains. We found this little area with a great lookout point.

What we planned on doing was EATING, SHOPPING and EATING. And what we did do was EAT and SHOP

outside one of the stores downtown..

Labels:

In the day we ventured around. We were real tourist beside this sign. Yep had to say we were here.

At this lookout point, you could see the water, What a beautiful day.. the sun was shining. We loved to see the sun again, since we haven't seen it for about 10 days now. Whitehorse is surrounded by mountains on every side. It was a very pretty site

The pictures don't do it justice.

So many great places to take pictures. I just loved seeing the mountains anytime you come out of a store or just walk down the street. It was like you were in another world. Did I say Beautiful Again...

A Winter Weekend Get-A-Way...

We got off the plane.. thank gosh because I think we both froze all the way to Whitehorse, got into our car. We had no maps, but were very eager to find the way to the hotel. Onto the Alaskan Hwy we went in our silver sunfire. Yep, that is right we are in Whitehorse, Yukon Canada.

Why we chose Whitehorse. Well to fulfil our great white northern adventure. We have heard many great things about Whitehorse, and one of the benefits, SHOPPING and GREAT FOOD. You just never realize how much you miss things until you cannot. We stayed at the High Country Inn on 4th Ave. Putting out stuff down in the hotel we ventured out into the cold in our car.

Downtown looked to be cute on Friday night. One place on our list for tomorrow. We walked and window shopped. It was great coming here before Christmas, Christmas was really in the air.

Civilization was key. We felt like real people again in a world we knew. We saw Walmart and had to wait in lines crowded with people. Not sure if it was such a great thing to come over Christmas to such a busy place from such a small community but we did.

Laura and the ER

I have been trying something new this week. Emergency! And I have found a great liking. People come in, you never know who or what is coming in. It could be anything from "my baby has had a cough since birth", to I had diarrhea once this am, to I dropped my TV on my foot, to a person who has to be medivac'd out for surgery ASAP. Always something new and exciting.. That's just my style.

It is a very trying job. I have been there for 3 days, and one lady has been in 3 times (2x one day and 1x today- and all times sent home because nothing was wrong). AHH. You sometimes want to say THIS IS EMERGENCY.. not a drop in centre. And in ER you can use some funky tools. Today I sawed off a cast. Booyah. I was nervous, patient was great (yeah I admitted it was my first time- she thought I would get hired in ortho for sure). I can now see why ER nurses burn out, as many people use and abuse the system- especially up here where people come in just to get a prescription for Tylenol ..

The joys of nursing. ER is GREAT! I will keep you posted on more ER adventures...
