Break-up at Airport lake. The ice was so neat. Looked like sticks of crystals. When you shattered them they made a noise like a chandelier.

Sarah trying to stand on the ice.. she almost went swimming...

Then we arrived at the Trapper.. That is one place you cannot miss when you visit Inuvik.

The Mad Trapper Pub Experience...
and yes he made it out alive, as we all did.

It was a tame night.. don't anyone worry! Our DD Jody got us home ok!!

Jody traveled 2 days to see the friendly faces of the Laura's.

To show him true Inuvik style we had to introduce him to the Northern Family... that's right, all the other suckers up here in Inuvik, friends and what we consider our family.

BBQ was hosted in honour of friends coming and friends going.

We had great food, and good laughs.. Maybe too much food. Then willie got out the bottle of whip cream and from then on in... Trouble.. (ah not really just a few more great laughs)

Work is never the same without the DREAM TEAM
Dream Team of Inuvik Regional Hospital
Hero, Tamara, Me, and Diane

Always working together, always team-work and always can depend on each other to get us through the day no matter what!

And yes we had to make T-Shirts.

Oh the fun we have the 4 of us. But sad to say the dream team will be coming to an end very soon. Tamara off for 3 months, Diane moving back to the Rock in July and myself heading home in September. It's a sad occasion to say goodbye to ones you truly love to work with.

But we did get many compliments on the shirts and complements on our team work as a group. Yeah Dream Team

Friends are amazing people, and ones you cannot live without.

Last week a friend went out of his way for both Willie and I and surprised the heck out of us. He was down south, ran around a grocery store picking up fruits and veggies, packing them in bags and delivered them to the both of us upon his return. Without even warning he called up and said he had a few bags for us. When we got the bags, there were fresh apples, oranges, carrots, onions, watermelon, pineapple, lettuce, broccoli, cauliflower. Wow.. we are well loved. Later this week, he was out again, and in his hand he had a subway sub for Willie and 2 Oriental Party Packs for both of us. Another friend from down south arrived bearing gifts too...A third M&M meats Oriental Party Pack arrived in Inuvik for the both of us. I guess we have been craving the south lately, and people are listening to us and really answering our prayers.

Its these type of people in your life that remind you just how lucky you are to know them and to have friends.

Thanks...

BREAK- UP

The Weather is changing, and break-up is starting. The Mackenzie River is still frozen in the centre, but the edges are starting to crack and loosen up. Usually break-up has happened before the May 24 weekend, but it remains to be cool later this year, so we are delayed. There still are some idiots with their skidoos, thinking they can ride the water and get into the centre of the river and ride. Idiots... that's all I have to say!!

It's really a pretty time of year! It's neat to see the thick ice starting to breakup along the edges and float down. I cannot wait until the whole area breaks up. Apparently the ice clings together as it goes down, sounding like a chandelier! The slivers of ice sparkle and the whole area lights up. I CANNOT WAIT.. I will have to keep on doing the River Report!

My new Boots.. Yep had to get a fun colour!
In the Mackenzie River!

From the ER Door:

Seems like I have been working nights non-stop for weeks. The only good thing is the photo opportunity I have at taking late night pics and it being oh so light out. Sleeping is becoming quite an issue as you feel like you need to be up doing things at all hours of the day. No more going to bed by 10 when you work, its hard enough getting into bed and settled by midnight. Ah sleep is over rated sometimes.

These pictures are at the 0345am hour. Crazy to think just months ago it was dark at this hour, but now you can see it all any hour of the day!Really, I think you have to see it to believe it.

Another First.. Campfire in 24hrs light

Fresh Air, Good Laughs, Great Company.. We all enjoyed our very first Campfire into the night of no darkness. A very different feeling for sure. All of these pics were taken at the hours of 9pm to about 2:30 am. Crazy to think no star watching at this campfire!

No campfire is complete with out Marshmellows and hot dogs. A few packs of Red Hots and we were in business. Very few knew of the Spider Dog, but by the end of the night the spider dog was the only way to cook a dog.

Keeping WARM!

The Hunt for Wood....

1st- Willie, Sarah and I set out in the hunt for wood for a campfire. In a vehicle we drove around looking, stopping, and dragging it into the vehicle.

2nd- We had the wonderful idea of going to the dump.. there is always wood at the dump.. At the dump- we found wood. Also found lots of mud and a vehicle that just couldn't handle our great finds!

So... what do we do..
3rd- Drove a
round town to find a bigger vehicle.. Hero- sleeping, Pilots- no vehicles in site, Tammy's man- vehicle not in driveway.. so ERU it was. Grabbed Jen, and the ERU and headed out on the town.

The only stopper on the whole wood hunting experience was the amount of mud around town. So what did we do..

4th- HIT UP NORTHMART and invested in a must need item- RUBBER BOOTS.
HOT!!!

Courtney's Birthday Celebration

Rick one of our medics in the north, slaved away and made a huge feast on Sunday night in honour of Courtney's Big Birthday. What a great meal, and great company!
