How I got where I am, Inuvik, NT:

A conversation a long time ago lead Laura and I to investigate our options as nurses. Many nurses have stories, and the ones that always caught my attention were the stories from a different part of Canada or the world. So the both of us wanted one day to be able to reminisce about the days when we were "somewhere else". We thought, lets go to a hot place like Australlia, or a hot tropical Island. Maybe Europe, but no we found ourselves leaving September 3rd from Terminal 1 Toronto to Inuvik in the Northwest Territories where the sun is out for very little and winter is the main season around. Yes my mother thought I was nuts and still does!

Both of us had no real idea what we were getting into, or where we were going. We just wanted a change. We knew there was a grocery store called NorthMart, the post office and a baseball team that we were going to join in the summer. We also knew there was a hospital where we would be calling home for the next year. Bags packed, 1 moving truck, 2 plane tickets to Edmonton, then Yellowknife, we finally arrived in Inuvik September 5th.

Did our eyes open up then..... Where are we? What were we thinking? and Lets put a T-shirt on! was the first things we thought.

It was hot, hotter than I had ever expected. The sun is so close to us up here, it was a noticable change when the clock struck 3. That is the hottest part of the day. The sun that night did not completely set until about 1130pm. Very different from what we were use to.
