A Crazy Week for Me!
This week turned out to be absolutely crazy around here. It all started Thursday at work. A busy day that even turned busier. I think about 3 pregnant mothers came in complaining of cramping. Hooking them up to the monitor, lead us to find out 1 of three was well on her way. I not being overly comfortable with Labour and delivery YET, had my sidekick another nurse T accompany me. We delivered a beautiful little baby Girl at 1958 that night. It is an experience to know that you were the first person to hold a brand new babe and see them take their first breath of air. This little one gave us a little trouble respiratory wise in the beginning and I was just thanking my lucky stars that I had such a great nurse with me to teach me and guide me in her care. Just to let you know, she is doing wonderfully now. So my 12.5 hr day of work turned into a 15.5 hr day, with myself crawling into bed at midnight, just to get up and go back for 7:30 the next day. There was no going to Nats for bingo tonight.
Friday was even busier. Crazy busy actually. We had one patient in the state of psycosis. I halled him out of a taxi cab as he was talking to someone not even there, along with other places we found him in. Funny, until he went sour. Again that night, I was the nurse to deliver a brand new baby girl. 8lbs 13 oz. Beautiful once again. There are alot of firsts in Inuvik. Bathing a brand new baby was one of them. She sure was a slippery little one. What a great 2 days of experience in the Labour Room. Lets just hope they don't think I am changing my profession to Labour and Delivery.
