Sunset..
oh what time was it on TUESDAY APRIL 24th... OH 11:30pm.. yep 2330.. WOW

out expected first day of 24hr sunlight is May 24th.. CRAZY TO THINK!!

Then we found this beautiful spot along the Dempster.. So we made our own Tracks through the snow... And yes that is a lot of work.

Yeah my shoe got caught! Opps!

And what did we see on the snowshoeing adventure...

Random Cabins along the way. Everyone seems to have a cabin up here and I am sure many of them look like this.. What is all this junk outside the place.. Who knows. I guess you just never know when you will need something (does that sound familiar mom and dad)

Oh i love the outdoors! I gotta get out more often to the outskirts of town!

Them bones them bones.. I guess a Cariboo

Fur on trees.. What is this stuff on the tree. Feels like fur, but only on the end of the branches.. what is this stuff? Anyone know?

Snowshoeing with Martine:

We had a truck and 2 pairs of snowshoes for the day thanks to Diane and Sheila.. And we were off on a days worth of snowshoeing and gabbing!

First stop was just off the Dempster Hwy at Campbell Creek. A quaint little picnic area along the road.

We had our old fashioned snowshoes laced up and ready to head out on the open trails. We followed a snowmobile track down and around leading us to a large lake. We crossed the lake and kept on shoeing..

There were many little lakes all over. Since it has been warmer out lately, some appear to be thawing on top. Don't worry we stayed away from them and took the land. Oh it was a beautiful day to be out, and I did have great company indeed!

I have been here 8 months now... and finally a picture of the welcome to INUVIK sign!

Who knows what a Quinzhee?

A Quinzhee is a type of snow shelter made by making a pile of snow, waiting for it to settle together, then hollowing out the inside.

Quinzhee - Inuit word for Shelter!

Inside was Muskox Fur... fresh smell and everything of dead animal/smoke.. ah.. the North

I think we should have camped out the night..

Thursday, April 19, 2007

We had many stops along the way.. yes to get pictures but more importantly to give the dogs a break and give them praise.

Can I take one home... they were just so cute..These two are my back end wheels.. haha..!!

Willie and Rocko her lead dog, who brought her home safely

the beauty of the trails

Chi.... Cha.... Go Dogs Go.... CHI... GO GO GO

Yeah Dogs...
This is the TEAM

Willie and her Team.. Yep.. she had the two clown dogs as the back end team.. Booting across the lakes and river of the north by dogs.

My Team... my Lead dogs Alaska and Jody.... Jody is 10months, son to Alaska

The team really showed me what the north is all about!

We went to Arctic Chalet, just outside of town, where Leader Judy and her assistant Ali took us on our dog sled tour. We went all over rivers, through different forests, and then through a nice little creek area. It was a beautiful morning.. started at 9am in the fresh air, the snow was sparkling and the sun was out.

Sunday April 15th, beautiful weather outside, and two exhausted girls..
About 8pm at night and the sun is completely out full force..
We went for a walk.

The town from way up high!

Along the Bypass Road.. No no bears yet!

When you work.. this is what Tuesday nights are all about.

Day off and what do we do.. Supper together and then....

Guess What We FOUND... Mission Accomplished
Aware that there were Inukshuks along the ice road, made by some unknown soul, we were out to find them. Where we were looking.. somewhere along the side of the road between the Aklavik cut off and the road to Tuk. That's right, all we knew is they were made of snow somewhere along the side of the road.
And yes.. I know what you are thinking.. how on earth are you going to see them when you have no idea what you are looking for, and all you can see around is snow and trees. GOOD LUCK... Well guess what. We gave ourselves 10 more minutes to drive, and if we did not see them, we would turn around. We started our 10 minute countdown at 1:17, and yes by 1:25 we found them.. Thank gosh..

Peak-A-Boo...

Oh this is why I love the North.. A whole lotta "Play Space"... Having fun, one adventure, one day, one sunrise or sunset at a time!
