INUVIK's 50th Muskrat Jamboree
April 5-9th

A winter festival on the Ice of the Mackenzie River. Events include Muskrat skinning, snowshoe races, dog sledding, tea boiling and log sawing. It's a time of the year that people from all communities come to inuvik to celebrate the festivities and culture of the North

We stared out by going to the Opening Ceremonies at the Arena. There is always a Queen nominated for the festival. The Queen is the woman who does the most volunteer work and puts on the most fund-raising for the festival. There was a dinner- the longest buffet table I have ever seen with foods like salads of all types, roast beef, chili, bannock, Eskimo ice-cream, muktuk, ham, turkey, fish, you name it they had it.

Our table..the bunch of us health care employees went.. we met up at the residence and rode over in the back of the ambulance.. nice mode of transportation.. another ONLY IN INUVIK !!

See the piece Eskimo ice cream just below my knife.. that is pure lard/fat with some kind of meat in it.. NO GOOD at all.. trust me. I won't try it again. Now i know why people have gall bladder problems. haha

Here are some of the people at the festival.. Interesting native culture for sure!!Neat little carrying aprons you see on the backs of moms/grandmas everywhereOne lady I see quiet frequently and I.. she loved the picture!

Us in our TAXI... aka the ambulance going to the trapper..hahah yep went there after the fun was over. Janice from the lab's daughter is in town and we had to show her the trapper.. Can you believe it, only Janice and I out of the 7 of us have been to the trapper.. NEWBIES!!!
