Northern UPDATE::
We still have snow.. oh yes we do. I cannot complain about the weather this month up here North of 60! It has been fabulous!!
We had about 2 weeks ago, a week of about 0-5 degree weather. It was so nice to dress down.. no parka, sometimes no hat. Then temps went lower again ranging from -10 to -19. Yep we had a few days with a "light dusting" of snow on the ground. But the sun was still out. The days are getting longer by the hour it seems. It is something different! To go outside at 1130pm at night and have the sun still above the horizon, and to see just as clear as you would at 2 in the afternoon is something unbelievable. So WEIRD that's all i can say. The other night I was on night shift and I wanted to see when the sun came up. Looking out the ER door, you can see the light starting behind the hills at about 4am. By 6ish the sun is out.
As for the ice road. Technically you can still drive on it, but it's more like a slush road. Probably in the next few days, if not today, the road will close, and driving to Aklavik and Tuk will be finished until next winter. And then soon after that the Dempster Hwy will be closing for "break-up". Therefore no traffic other than planes will be going in and out of this fine Community of Inuvik. Ah that won't bother me.. the only way out for me is via Airplane anyways!!!
So far, this has been one unique experience, learned lots about weather, the north and how things work in this very different place.
