INUVIK REGIONAL HOSPITAL aka Our New Home!

The hospital built in 2003 includes a ER, 14 bed Acute Care unit with 2 birthing rooms, and a Long Term care Area. We have a operating room where we do a variety of operations. Also in this hospital is special clinics for the visiting specialists that come up ie/opthamology, dental, etc.

I am on Acute care, where I would see anyone from the age of 0-100. If patients are admitted, they come to us on acute care. The babies are very cute and we usually have at least one on the floor. I got to help in 1 delivery so far. Something I really need to learn more about, as I am sure I will get "thrown" into there again. It seems like so long ago that I read anything about babies and labouring moms!

It really is a very nice hospital to work in. We don't have a manager at the moment, and who knows how long we will be like that for. It is difficult at times, as there is no one to keep consistency in our work. Oh well... maybe I should apply (ha ha ha).

Funny things that have happened. I lost a patient. Oh yes you heard right. I had a little old lady wearing a hospital gown who I guess was out for a smoke, saw some people she knew and got a ride home. She does have dementia so I guess her friends just through she was out so they would bring her home. Who picks up a little old lady in a hospital gown and takes them home! That is the first for me. And do you think she would come back- NO, she says she just got home from a vacation out on the land and she was staying. And that was that!

Oh the joys of being a Nurse
